Motivation is something we all struggle with.
We download training schedules. We sign up for races. We subscribe to magazines. We go out and buy new gear. We do what everyone else appears to be doing.
But there’s no quick fix for motivation. It’s not something you can download, buy or duplicate.
Fitting into the “cookie-cutter” definition of a runner won’t help. Unlimited and long lasting motivation is something that needs to be cultivated in a totally different way.
Everyone wants to be the best possible runner they can. We want to be able to run as far as we want, as fast as we want, get there before anyone else and feel motivated during the entire process.

In this interview, I spoke with Jason Fitzgerald of Strength Running. Jason writes about achieving your personal best by overcoming injuries, doing the right workouts, adding strength exercises and has just published an outstanding ebook called the Rebel Running Guide with Steve Kamb from Nerd Fitness.
In this interview we talked about recovering from and ITB injury and injury prevention in general.
Andrew: Could you provide a brief introduction. Who are you? What is Strength Running?
Jason: My name’s Jason Fitzgerald. I’m a 2:39 marathoner and the founder and coach at Strength Running, a website for passionate runners who want to reach their potential.
Since starting the site in early 2010, it’s really blown up and is a great community for runners who want to take their training up a level or who want to get healthy from an injury.

You can look at being injured in two ways.
Yeah, it kinda sucks that you’re injured. It can be overwhelming to the point that many runner’s just sit back and do nothing, hoping that somehow time will fix everything. But these runners aren’t taking advantage of what being injured has to offer.
Being injured is only as frustrating as you make it.
If you go to a medical professional who is only concerned with symptomatic relief and selling you expensive corrective devices, it’ll be pretty frustrating.
If when you get injured, you immediately try to buy something to solve your problems, such as a new pair of running shoes, it’ll be frustrating when you don’t get the results you expect.
